Last night I am sitting on the couch next to Ridley catching up on some emails and I hear the slap of his hands on skin. I turn quickly and his hands are doubled over his eyes. Ahhhh, I knew the Victoria’s Secret commercial must be on. Sure enough I turned towards the television and there they were. The starving and spray tanned santa helpers were all decked out in their Christmas best. I smirk as I think about the day their hormones will kick in and they will be heading to the flannel department before the silk and satin.
The sad part is Victoria’s Secret really makes good undergarments that last, fit well and can make a girl feel pretty. I just don’t like the idea that their Pink campaign was not based on a fabric color, but a skin color. I also don’t think they need to entice my daughter to monogram her butt with a message for the world. I love my husband so much for the way he guards himself against the temptation. I trust Ridley. He knows he is human and doesn’t want to risk it. That reminds me that he loves Jesus, me and his family a lot!!!
So Victoria, your stockings are not the ones that we will be hanging by the chimney with care. My husband is teaching our son to heed your intent. My husband is showing our daughters that they do not have to conform to this world to be beautiful. God knew your secret Victoria, even before you did.
Proverbs Chapter 7 warns us about you. I love that the Bible was written so long ago and is applicable to the things of today! “7 I noticed among the young men, a youth who lacked judgment. He was going down the street near her corner, walking along in the direction of her house at twilight, as the day was fading, as the dark of night set in.” This poor guy was doing the simple. He was walking, doing his own thing. and then verse 10. “Then out came a woman to meet him, dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent. (She is loud and defiant, her feet never stay at home; now in the street, now in the squares, at every corner she lurks.) She took hold of him and kissed him and with a brazen face she said: I have fellowship offerings at home; today I fulfilled my vows. So I came out to meet you; I looked for you and have found you!”
This young man had no intent of going and finding this woman. She is very bold to confess that she was looking for him. Verse 19 then reveals her own secret. “My husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey. He took his purse filled with money and will not be home till full moon.” Verse 21: “With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with her smooth talk. All at once he followed her. like an ox going to slaughter.”
I love this next part that my sweet husband is modeling for our son, Harrison. Verse 24: “Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say. Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths. Many are the victims she has brought down.”
Merry Christmas Victoria! God knew you weren’t going to be able to keep a secret and He warned us. Thank you for proving Him right.
